MRPA formed in 2009 for a fundraiser for a friend’s legal defense fund. MRPA has gone on to produce 9 different shows, go on 3 different tours and raise hundreds of dollars for the Chapel Hill Prison Books Collective.

The Hits:

Dance Party A fictional depiction of an anti-capitalist reclaim the streets. This puppet show was our first collaboration.

Donny Don’t A puppet show for environmentalists about staying safe and staying OUT of jail. This show has been performed over 125 times around the USA.

Jack and the Beanstalk A dramatic anti-capitalist retelling of the old fairy tale.

Little Red Riding Hood An animal-centric look at a familiar story.

The Mysterious Rabbit Puppet Army’s Guide To Landing Your Dream Job Practical tips for weathering the storm. A play about the indignities of both employment and unemployment.

Hansel and Gretel A retelling of the old tale that takes aim at green capitalism and the charade of electoral politics.

What Are Prisons For? A shadow puppet show using historical research and humor to explore the history of prisons and policing in the U.S. from chattel slavery to present day mass incarceration.
